I am here now. I wasn’t before. Before I was someplace else.
I am a rescued dog.
I had excellent foster parents and a couple of other parents before that and one in between that had me for only 3 days and then sent me back. I am a handful. But Mom (the lady in the green behind me) says I am in my Forever Home now.
I will be two on July 16th. And I am very soft. I HAVE LOTS OF ENERGY. Mom (the green lady) thinks my legs are too long. She is trying to wear them down. We have had lots of walks since 9:30 yesterday morning when I started going home.
Here’s a picture of me after our first walk. That is not our house. It is somewhere on the way home.
Mom is very proud in the picture because for about 12 seconds after 16 laps around the not our house place I actually walked with a “Loose Leash.” (See it drooping? See Mommy’s arm not straight out in front of her?) Her left arm is now 3 inches longer than the other one.
Here I am relaxing in the car going home. I am adorable.
I also need a name. I had a name, but Mom and I decided I need a new start and a new name. Except she can’t think of one. Can you?
Here are the requirements.
1. I am a boy dog. NO GIRLIE NAMES! No either/or names. Everybody thinks Golden Retrievers are girls. It has to be a manly name.
2. It has to sound nice with my new last name: Simms.
3. It can’t be anything that you shout out loud and it kind of sounds like a bad word or is embarrassing to me in any way.
4. Not too many syllables; I move fast.
Please give us as many suggestions as you can think of that are good names for me. Use the COMMENTS. (If you get this emailed, please don’t hit reply.)
Waggingly yours,
______________________

Several good suggestions.
I once heard that it’s not the best idea for a dog’s name to rhyme with NO (if you’re going to use NO to correct his behavior) because it can be confusing.
As suggested above, Max is a good name.
But I suddenly thought of Barney. It’s masculine, but has a bit of a goofball sound to it — and dogs are nothing if not goofballs.

Well hi there, handsome! Not that I’m suggesting that as a name. I’m not good at names – either remembering or thinking up. OK …Thinking…
You are a fairly light colored Golden – sort of like sand in some places. Sandy is an either/or type name. Bigger than sand is rock. How about ” Rocky”? That’s pretty masculine. Or “Bubba”? Although that one can have different connotations to different folks. Back to rocks. I live in the Rocky Mountains – rocky mountains majesty comes to mind – something majestic. How about “King”?. Put a few more pounds on you and I think you could grow into a name like that.
Heck, I don’t know. Can’t think up quilt names worth a darn either. :)

I’m a rescue too, a Doberman, a big, brown, beautiful boy my mom says. Once, I overheard that I had “low self-esteem” whatever that means, so they named me Paulie (after some guy on “the Sopranos”? you tell me, I never heard of such a thing). Now, I feel great, my self-esteem is awesome. So think about it –
PAULIE kind of a nice ring to it, right? And if I’m running fast, and maybe don’t come right away when mom calls me, it’s Paulie James. Two names means business.

You know, I am a “rescue dog” too (whatever that means?) They already had named me and my new Mom and Dad decided to keep the name. I like to keep the leash tight, too, it guarantees me a fun run and certainly keeps my Mom on her toes. Do you like to bark at other dogs? I do. My Mom is never sure whether I’m trying to be scarey or just barking “hello”. One thing I can say is that barking certainly makes “her” move fast. Take it from me, you’ve got a lot to teach your new Mom and Dad. I am really glad that you are there and blogging already. As a dog, with skills even, I have a hard time finding many dog written blogs and lets face it, we have plenty of opinions and ideas to share with our other furry friends.

When my mom decided to get another dog, a choc. brown min. poodle she was looking from some name books and she decided on Quazar. While “Max” is nice and combines neatly with your last name (say it fast — “Max Simms”), my absolute favorite thought is “GATSBY” Think about it — who was one of the most gorgeous blonde males around — Robert Redford, right? And what was one of his movies? The Great Gatsby! Okay, he was in that western movie, too, so you could adopt the name “Butch” or “Sundance,” I suppose.
Whatever your Mom chooses for you, welcome to your forever home … you’ve got big paw prints to fill, little man!

The first Old English Sheepdog that we had, we named him Winston. We thought that he would grow up to be a stately gentleman, a “man” of dignity and stature. Boy, were we wrong! The next OESD was a rescue and probably about 9 or 10 months old. I knew he had a name of his own but had a terrible time trying to figure it out. I called him every English name that I could think of but got no response. Finally, I opened the door to let him out and said, “Lead on , MacDuff” and, for the first time ever, he responded! So, he became MacDuff (Scotish)which was usually shortened down to Duffy(Irish). That worked very well. My FOREVER dog.
So, sometimes the name you pick doesn’t exactly fit. Sometimes the dog has to grow into it. Sometimes you just hope that it works and end up with something that sounds kind of like what you started with. When I look at this dog, I hear Rupert. I don’t know why. It just seems to fit.

So glad you were able to find a new dog, especially, one that seems to really need a home full of love. You are really cute as can be. If I had a daughter…. you know the old saying.

Congratulations ro the whole Simms family, both old and new. We’ve always tended to name our four footed family members after literary people and/or philosophers, so naturally, Henry (as in David Thoreau) came to mind.
Henry used to walk from Walden Pond to town nearly every day (more than a mile) and while Walden Pond sounds like it was isolated and “in the woods” Henry went to town daily because he was an extremely outgoing and social person. If he didn’t go to town some days, he expected lots of company dropping by to visit. He could enjoy the country and lots of company as well.
I’d hazard a guess that your Henry Simms would like lots of company, long walks, and sojurns through the countryside, too.

then Home could be your middle name.
Our “found” dog of 16 years went to doggie heaven in March, and she was named Bashert ( in Jewish it means meant to be), we called her Beasha for
short. Since we didn’t know her past, and she was a mixed pup, I have her
a mixed heritage, Beasha Marie Mary Margaret Anne Klein….. and a story about her past…. she was our 12th rescued dog in almost 48 years – we sometimes had 3 at a time. As you can see my email name is a variation of her name.
You will have a happy life.

My original thought was AL – in honor of all the work your mom does in the search for a cure for Alhzeimer and Al could be short for Alistair, very sophisticated and refined. Alistair Sims, yep sounds good too, don’t you think Al?
But then Brandy popped into mind when I look at your beautiful coat, but then Brandy could be an either or.
I am so happy you have rescued him Ami. I have been wondering about you. My baby went to heaven about the same time as Madison and I swear on his way to angel heaven he spread the word there is a sucker on this street and she has food left over, because within less than 1 month I had a big gray cat telling me he was starving. I named him Nicolas. He pays no attention to that!!! Was trying to let him be an outside cat, but a neighbor threatened him so he still isn’t real happy about being an indoor cat.
I know he will have you spoiled within no time.
