Stick It In Your Ear!

Puppus Doggus EarringsI did!

Are these earrings not the coolest? My friend Peg made them just for me and I’m so delighted. Can you see the resemblance to the dogs in the quilt in the background?

Here, check out the detail: Doggies!

These little puppies are as cute as they can be and light as a feather. They’re made out of special paper and they’re coated with plastic so that they won’t melt should I happen to get caught in the rain.

They are extremely sturdy, so I don’t have to worry about scarves, wind gusts, or enthusiastic hugs. These earrings will come out unscathed.

She also made me two pair of Twisted Sisters earrings.

And a pair from a photograph of part of my St Basil’s Cathedral quilt.

And a pair out of the quilt top I made after my mom passed away.

The earring art is 3/4″ square and for pierced ears only. They are ultra light.  They feel like you’re wearing nothing at all, in your ears at least.

So why am I going on and on? I think I’d like to sell these earrings on my web page. How does $10 a pair sound? These designs will only be available through me. Raise your hand if you’re interested. Your feedback is appreciated. Leave me a comment in the comment section of the blog.  Ask your friends to weigh in too. Thank you!

  1. I love them. $10 is very reasonable for a hand made product. Although I wouldn’t mind dogs too. lol I volunteer with a rescue.

  3. Ohh, fun!!! I vote twice, I raised both hands. So that is three so far. Quilting earrings are so few and far between. A new line from Ami (you can go by just your first name like Cher).

  4. I’d buy ’em! :-) I think the possibilities are endless – all the quilts and quilt blocks in the world!

This is the perfect gift for secret pals and all your quilting buddies at Christmas time.

  5. My hand is raised and Charley has several paws in the air but that has more to do with wanting a tummy-tickle than the earrings..
They are super fun and I’ll be def. wanting some as gifts

  6. The earrings are wonderful! My hand is raised also!

Any way the dog earrings could be made for non-pierced ears? My sister would love them–her two “boys,” my four-legged nephews, (Springer Spaniels) would love to get them for their “mother.”

  7. What does Madison think? After all, the doggy ones are pictures of him, aren’t they? Will he get any cookies out of this?

  9. Both my hands are up…there were two sets I really would like to get. And what a wonderful, reasonably priced gift to give your quilting friends. Hope this will be up and running before Christmas!

  10. Love the earrings. I’d be interested — and am thinking of the possibilities. We could wear grandkids’ pictures (or kids’) — earrings to match a dress. And $10 isn’t an outrageous price. Great gifts for other quilters.

  11. Two hands and a rotary cutter in the air.

Deb Devine – you can convert most dangly “pierced” earring to clip-ons with jewelry findings that can be bought at Michaels, Joannes, or even WalMart. I’d practice on a few before touching these, since they look a little dainty.

  17. Great idea! Of course, we’d want some with Madison’s picture. And to be fair, there should be some cat ones even though Mad might not agree! Beautiful quilts, by the way! $10 is a great price.

  18. Two hands up here. Pretty much “ditto” to what everyone else has already said — great price, great idea, great for gifts or as a little treat for oneself.

  19. If they are light/fragile I can see why she made them in the style that she did, however I don’t wear earrings that aren’t posts. Can she make them with posts? The designs are beautiful, especially the one of your quilt. $10 is okay if it includes shipping/handling. For years I have worn earrings that I made myself from polymer clay that is preformed in little rolls that looked like quilt designs. I slice them, bake them and sell them at craft shows for under $5 but they are posts. Her designs are very nice and you should do well if you offer them.

  20. Yes, but having a short neck I am wondering if they have a clasp on them or are the ones which just hang thru the ear? Thanks! I want dogs and twisted sisters.

  21. my hands are raised, they are so cute, however a deal breaker for me could be the hooks, I am very picky about what kind of hook my earrings have….

  23. Well…of course my hand is up! Peg is my best friend and I knew she could do it! I’ve had some of her first designs in my stash for awhile. I definitely think they should go for $15 a pair! She has worked so hard on these and I’m so proud of her. They are all so very cool! Peg can also go by her pen name Vera Howard. :) Love Coco.

  24. Hi Ami, I love the earrings. With working at Hobby Lobby in the fabric and needle arts departments, they would be great. I will come back to order when i get my next paycheck.

  25. Both hands wildly waving in the air! The price is extreamly reasonable – I’m ready to order all of them! I work in a quilt shop – would she be interested in selling them to/through a “brick and mortar” shop?

  26. They’re adorable…But, I have a question. How sturdy are they? Paper with a plastic overlay doesn’t sound very durable.

    1. Sharon,
You will be pleased with the sturdyness. I have tested them extensively and evolved them since thier inception- with this major factor in mind !!! credit cards are durable ;)- and the key tags you get from all the stores for your discounts are durable–all those are paper with a plastic overlay. I would say to tear them up- you got to be on a mission to do it.- and hopefully that wont be your goal when you have them on your head :) Dont let the raw materials they are made of or the delicate appearance fool you-

You will LOVE the fact that they are light as a feather and your ears will thank you!!!

      Right Ami???

  27. Lots of hands in the air here, too.

The method of putting them in or on your ears can be changed by you easily once you get them, folks. Any place that sells jewelry findings will sell posts, clip ons, French wires and the wires that hook so you don’t lose them. Easy to change. Personally I don’t like posts because it’s uncomfortable to talk on the telephone! Wires only for me, thank you.

  29. You do not have to worry about losing them. Very lightweight. Brought 3 pairs home with me and gave 2 away. I am not a quilter but definitely can see where they resemble quilts, the ones i have and gave away. Ami, I would love to meet you. Told Peg I could do Chicago with here because I am pretty close, maybe not as close as you.

  30. I would love them, too, but could only wear them if the part that goes in your ear is silver, since I’m allergic to anything but silver or gold.

    1. RE: Silver wire

      Sheryl,
Fire Mountain Gems carrys this wire desgin in Sterling- if you can swap the charms out yourself. The design style is called perfect balance. So with a pair of round nose pliers and a twist of your wrist you could be styling too..
Sorry, at this time I am not able to offer them in silver. Am so glad you love them..
Thanks for you input- as I know there are others that have selective earring wire needs. Hope this helps.

  31. Many years ago there was a lady from Texas who made these earrings – sold at quilt shows, etc. Texas Treasures was the name, I think. She would do custom – with pic of your own quilt, too. I have my daughter standing in front of the quilt I made for her…….. They were $10.

    1. What a wonderful keepsake! I’m sure the technology to make these precious remembrances has come a long way since you purchased yours. The quality of Peg’s earrings is superb. Perhaps some day we can talk her into doing custom work.
