AMI Air

AMI Air

My friend Mark reminded me that I have my own airline, Air Manilla International. Never mind that it’s out of business! He also reminded me that I have my own airline code: AMI stands for Mataram, Indonesia.

Aparently there are more than 9,000 airport codes. If you want to look up your initials and see where YOUR airport is, try http://www.world-airport-codes.com/ and type your name in the blue shaded box. The next challenge is to somehow work that into a conversation.

  1. What fun! I found “my” airport — it’s Stewart, Connecticut. Unfortunately, it isn’t very close to where I live (NV), but it’s nice to know that it’s out there. ;)

    1. Stewart is actually in Newburgh, NY. It used to be an AF base.

I’m Kawthaung Airport, Myanmar. Now to remember what Myanmar used to be when I was in school — Burma, then Thailand?

  2. My initials are MAD. I get lots of teasing on that one.
I do not think you have too much time on your hands. You are one busy lady!! It is fun to search out trivia. Good for You

  3. Mine is Jabiru Australia. Think I’ll just have to plan a trip to check it out. (And I’d have to go without hubby – it matches my maiden name initials…nothing for the married name. The things a girl does give up when she marries…..) Julie in VA

  4. I believe that’s a giant chipmunk! If I ever had one of those sitting on my step like his little cousins do, I’d never open the front door!

  5. Well, first of all, Ami, it’s not a squirrel, it’s a chip munk but it’s still too big! My airport DBS is in Dubois, Idaho, borrrrring. Also DEB in Debrecen, Hungary, not much better. At least I have two!

  6. How cool is that! I am Casa de Campo Internationale, Dominican Republic. (LRM)
I’m also two radio stations: KLRM in San Luis Obispo and WLRM in Tennesee.
AMI, you’re not a radio/TV station, sorry. But you have the consolation of having your own airline even if is is defunct.

  10. I’m the mysterious Lost Harbor Sea Port (LHB).
It’s waaaaaaay in the middle of the Bering Sea…almost in Russia. I would love to visit!!!!
Somehow I’m guessing there’s no Starbucks or Hudson Newsstand in the terminal. For that matter, I think it’s a safe bet there’s no terminal.

  14. “My” airport is Dornoch (DOC), United Kingdom. Everything about it has either a question mark or is unknown. Still…an airport is more impressive than a chain of eyeglass stores…that are now defunct.

  15. Ami! Of all the useless, arcane information…

However, being an “Ami Avid Admirer” I, of course, went immediately to the website and found me–named for a woman combat pilot in Turkey!!

Now to weave THAT into conversation…

  17. My airport is Momote, Papua New Guinea. With my maiden name initials, it is Mangochi, Malawi. Don’t think I am going to visit either place. I may be able to work the website into a conversation!
