I started this quilt with photos as one of two to give my niece and son in memory of the summer they learned to surf. (See the earlier one that was finished for my niece in time for Christmas last year.) My son, Steven's quilt grew to include a challenge from my guild, Orange Grove Quilters Guild which was "games people play" and had to include some of the tennis shoe fabric seen as the center in some of the blocks. Being a "twisted sister," I am thinking that surfing IS a game and added lots of sunshiny fabric and some skateboard and car fabric, trying not to be overwhelming with my theme. Then, I added as the binding and backing, some fabric which included Steven's beloved basketball.
